I live on a leaf I leave
I never come back, I’m more of an immigrant with every baptism and burial I miss
I miss and love on my lonely leaf
Cheap words I borrow and write borough
My work doesn’t justify my peace our peace
Doesn’t justify
I breathe and repeat, one day I’ll be kinder one day I’ll be here
One day I’ll learn, one day
Of an immigrant. I live on a lettuce leaf
Like a worm I watched years ago eating through its life
Then sleep. I live
Between the leaves and the sky there’s a mile of ambition but high school is faraway baby and we are all alone now
And those dreams need rescuing cause we’re all immigrants in this land don’t say it’s easy
cause it’s not all of us at burials and baptisms, we all remember
